A little skill goes a long way.
Think of a skill as a useful field guide for your AI agent. It tells the agent how to do a particular kind of work, with instructions and resources it can return to.
Find your kind of useful.
Browse by category or search for a task. Read the instructions, check the licence, and see which agents the creator has tested.
Make it yours.
Copy SKILL.md for a simple instruction file, or download the full package to include supporting references and assets.
Give your agent the know-how.
Place the extracted skill directory in your agent’s skills folder. Ask the agent to use the skill on a relevant task.
What’s inside a skill?
your-skill/ ├── SKILL.md # The instructions and metadata ├── references/ # Optional supporting knowledge ├── scripts/ # Optional code for your agent └── assets/ # Optional templates and resources
The required SKILL.md begins with a name and description in YAML frontmatter, followed by the instructions in Markdown. Agentra validates packages against the open Agent Skills format.
Where do I put it?
For project-local skills, common directories include:
.claude/skills/your-skill/SKILL.md.cursor/skills/your-skill/SKILL.md.agents/skills/your-skill/SKILL.mdAgent versions and configuration can differ. Check your agent’s documentation for its supported directory and activation behaviour. Review downloaded scripts before running them.
